Solulu vs Stella: hear your future self, or see yourself living it
Stella suits people who love audio. It writes short stories about your future life and reads them to you, on iPhone and Android. For most people who want to manifest a specific life, Solulu is the better pick. It shows your own face living the scene in a personal mind movie. You do not have to imagine what a voice describes, and it takes a few minutes in the morning and at night.
Two ways to meet your future self
Stella and Solulu are built on the same old idea. Every day, you spend a few minutes with the version of you who already has the life you want.
We make Solulu, one of the two apps on this page.
The idea comes from the Law of Assumption, one family of manifesting methods. “Feel the wish fulfilled,” Neville Goddard taught his students. He meant that you act and feel as if your wish has already come true. He called this living in the end. What you assume and feel to be true hardens into fact. Then it shows up in your real life. A few minutes with your future self each day keeps you living in the end.
The two apps differ in how you take it in.
- Stella tells it to you. You listen to a story about your future life.
- Solulu shows it to you. You watch yourself living it.
Both work. Which one suits you depends on two things. Do you take things in best by ear or by eye? And how easily can you picture what you hear?
What each app does, in three lines
Stella is an audio story app. Solulu is a mind movie app.
Stella - Manifest Anything (by Perl Productions LLC)
- You answer a long set of questions about you, your people and the life you want. This takes 10 to 30 minutes.
- It writes personal stories about that life, told as if it is already happening. A narrator reads them over soft sounds like rain or the ocean. You can also read the text. Each story is two to three minutes long, and a new “today’s moment” story comes each day.
- It also has affirmations, short positive lines that you swipe through. It has a “Wall of Manifestations” for the things you want, too. It has 4.7 stars from 5,300 ratings on the App Store.
Solulu (by us)
- You describe the life you want and add your photos. You can also add photos of your SP, places, outfits, pets and things you want. Your SP is your specific person, the one you want to be with.
- It makes personal mind movies with you in the scenes. A mind movie is a short video of your goals, with affirmations and music. Each one opens with a calm kaleidoscope, then shows scenes of you living that life.
- You get up to three new mind movies every week as your goals grow. You watch them in the morning and at night.
Side by side
Stella gives you audio stories. Solulu gives you up to three new mind movies each week, with your own face in every scene.
| Stella | Solulu | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | A new personal audio story each day, plus affirmations | Up to three new personal mind movies each week |
| Your own photos | No. The pictures show other people | Yes. You, and if you like, your SP, places, pets and things |
| Video or audio | Audio, with text and pictures | Video, with affirmations and music |
| Platforms | iPhone and Android | iPhone |
One wish, both ways
Here is the same wish done in each style. The difference is clearest with love, so we start with an SP.
A future-self story, like the ones in Stella, might sound like this. “I love how easy it is between us now. They text me first every morning. I never worry about how they feel about me.”
In Solulu, the same wish becomes one scene you can see, with your face in it.
It is Sunday morning in their apartment. They hand me coffee in the mug they bought just for me. They ask me to stay for lunch. I am still wearing their hoodie.
The story tells you how it feels. The scene shows you one moment that proves it, and you are in it.
It works the same way for other goals. A money story might say, “Money comes to me easily now and I never worry about rent.” In Solulu, the scene looks like this.
I sign the lease on my first apartment alone. It has a view of the city, and I do not even check my bank balance first.
A glow-up story is about feeling good in how you look. It might say, “I feel so at home in my body.” In Solulu, it becomes this scene.
I catch my reflection in a shop window on the way to brunch. I am in my white linen dress, and I smile at her.
Where Stella is better
Stella has real strengths. For some people, it is the right app.
- It is hands-free. You can listen while you drive, walk or fall asleep. Solulu needs your eyes for a few minutes.
- It is on Android. Stella is on Google Play as well as the App Store. Solulu is iPhone only.
- The words are written for you. Some people never know what to say to themselves. For them, a story with their own name and their people’s names in it makes things easy.
Where Solulu is better: four reasons
For most people, Solulu is the better choice, for four reasons.
1. You see yourself living it
Stella gives you a voice and a story. Its pictures show other people, so it is hard to see yourself in that life. Solulu makes scenes from your own photos. You see your own face, already living the life. It might be you and your person on a Sunday morning, or you on the balcony of your new place.
That matters. In the Law of Assumption, feeling that the life is already yours is how it comes into your real life. In a well-known study, people pictured themselves voting, seen from the outside like a photo. Those people were more likely to really vote. Seeing yourself do something helps you believe you are someone who does it.
2. It does not depend on your imagination
Say a voice tells you that you wake up next to them, with the sun coming through the curtains. The picture of that moment still has to come from you. Some people picture things easily. Many do not. They hear the words, but no picture appears.
About 4 in every 100 people have very dim mental pictures, or none at all. This is called aphantasia. For them, a story can never turn into a scene. Also, a story told as “I” in someone else’s voice can feel like another person’s life.
With Solulu, the picture is not up to you. The scene is in front of you, with your face in it. All your energy can go into feeling it, and that feeling is what brings it to you.
3. It never goes stale
Most practices repeat the same words, audio or pictures every day. After a few weeks, your mind gets used to them and the feeling fades. The Solulu method makes refreshing part of the practice, and Solulu keeps making new mind movies of you as your story moves on. So what you watch never goes stale.
4. It is easy to keep doing
Both apps are quick. A Stella story takes a few minutes, and so does a Solulu mind movie. The difference is what you come back to.
A mind movie works when you return to the same scene until it feels like a memory. Then it comes into your life. The Solulu method is built on that. You pick one specific scene and see yourself inside it, every morning and every night. You watch the same mind movie at both times, so you keep coming back to the same scenes. New movies arrive as your goals grow.
| You see yourself in it | Works without a strong imagination | Easy to keep up | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solulu | Yes, your own face, from your photos | Yes, you watch the scene | Yes, a few minutes morning and night |
| Stella | No, a voice and pictures of other people | Partly. You picture what you hear | Yes, short stories |
What Stella users say
Stella users love how personal the stories feel.
- What they love. The stories feel real and very personal. They are good for listening in the car or in bed.
- Two common complaints. The set of questions before you can listen is long and personal. There are also bugs, such as audio that stops after 20 to 30 seconds.
The verdict, by reader
For most readers, the pick is Solulu. People who love audio, and people with Android phones, should look at Stella.
| If you… | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Want to see yourself living the life you want | Solulu | Your own face in every scene, from your photos |
| Are manifesting your SP | Solulu | Hearing that you are together is good. Seeing the two of you is better |
| Find it hard to picture things | Solulu | A story still asks you to picture it. A mind movie does not |
| Love listening while you drive or fall asleep | Stella | It is audio, so it works with your eyes closed |
| Use an Android phone | Stella | Solulu is iPhone only |
| Want the words written for you | Stella | It writes a story with your name and your people in it |
Switching from Stella
To move from Stella to Solulu, cancel Stella first. You do this in your phone’s subscription settings. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
- On iPhone, open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then Stella.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. Stella’s terms say the cancellation starts at the end of the period you have paid for.
On Android, cancel in Google Play under Payments and subscriptions. Then check that the subscription shows as cancelled. Our guide to cancelling a manifestation app has every step. For more options, see the best Stella alternatives or our full Stella review.
How to start
You can start seeing your future self today, by hand or with the app.
- By hand, for free. Write one scene from the life you want. Write it with “I”, in the present tense. Find the closest photo you can with you in it. Look at it when you wake up and before you sleep.
- With Solulu. Solulu is the iPhone app we make for exactly this. You describe the life you want and add your photos. It makes mind movies with you in the scenes. You get up to three new mind movies each week, with your own face in every scene.
Of the two apps, Solulu is the better way to meet your future self. There are four reasons. You see your own face living the life, instead of hearing a voice describe it. You do not have to imagine anything. New mind movies keep it from going stale. And it fits into a few minutes every morning and night.
